Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment over Punjab Kings’ narrow loss to Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 match. Despite posting 200/8, Punjab couldn’t defend the total as Mumbai Indians chased down the target with one ball to spare. Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 75 and Ryan Rickelton’s explosive start led Mumbai to victory.
The defeat was hard for Punjab, especially after a strong recovery in the final overs to reach the 200-run mark following a middle-order collapse. Shreyas acknowledged it as a tough loss but praised the overall game as well-fought. He highlighted Tilak Varma’s exceptional performance that turned the game in Mumbai’s favor.
Punjab initially struggled and seemed headed for a lower total before Azmatullah Omarzai’s late aggressive play changed the momentum. His quick cameo, including four sixes, propelled Punjab to the 200-run mark. Shreyas commended Omarzai for shifting the momentum towards Punjab with his performance.
Despite the setback, Shreyas remains optimistic about Punjab Kings’ chances in the upcoming league matches, including the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With their fifth consecutive loss, Punjab Kings currently hold the fourth position in the points table with 13 points in 12 matches. Their next match is against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday.
