The selectors’ decision to exclude Shubman Gill from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has fueled his determination to guide Gujarat Titans to victory in the upcoming IPL season. Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes Gill will use this setback as motivation to lead his team to success in IPL 2026, starting on March 28.
Gujarat Titans, the 2022 IPL champions, aim to surpass their previous performance after falling short in the Eliminator during IPL 2025. The team is focused on clinching the trophy for the second time in the upcoming season.
Cheteshwar Pujara, speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Game Plan – Know Your Team’, highlighted how Shubman Gill could turn the T20 World Cup disappointment into a driving force for success in IPL 2026. Pujara emphasized Gill’s versatility across formats and the opportunity for him to secure a spot in India’s T20I squad through a strong IPL season.
Ashok Sharma, the 150 kmph pacer acquired by Gujarat Titans in the auction, may make his IPL debut under the mentorship of former India pacer Ashish Nehra. Pujara suggested that Sharma could feature in the Playing XI, potentially replacing Kagiso Rabada, to strengthen the team’s pace attack.
Analyzing Gujarat Titans’ squad, Pujara identified their formidable top order comprising Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler as a key strength. He also highlighted the team’s depth in all-rounders, particularly with the addition of Jason Holder, making them strong title contenders for the season. Pujara emphasized the importance of players like Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan in bolstering the team’s batting lineup and the potential impact of seamers like Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj in the bowling department.
