Skipper Shubman Gill showcased his batting prowess with a composed 86 runs, propelling Gujarat Titans to a convincing five-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders at Narendra Modi Stadium. Gill’s impressive innings, featuring eight fours and four sixes at a strike-rate of 172, secured the victory for GT and extended KKR’s losing streak to six matches, keeping them at the bottom of the table.
Despite a spirited effort from KKR, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan maintained their composure to steer GT to their third consecutive win. Cameron Green’s resilient 79 off 55 balls for KKR was overshadowed by Gill’s masterclass, as GT successfully chased down 181 runs.
Gill’s sublime form was evident from the start as he displayed a range of shots, well-supported by B Sai Sudharsan’s aggressive 22. The duo’s explosive partnership set the tone for GT’s chase, with Jos Buttler also contributing a quickfire 25 before falling to Varun Chakaravarthy.
Even after losing wickets, Gill continued his onslaught, reaching a half-century off just 27 balls. However, his dismissal by Cameron Green brought a momentary setback for GT, with KKR’s bowlers creating tension in the final overs. In a nail-biting finish, Tewatia and Shahrukh held their nerve to secure the win for GT.
