Singapore Airlines (SIA) has noted positive developments in Air India’s transformation, emphasizing its significance in SIA’s long-term multi-hub strategy despite hurdles faced by the Tata Group-owned airline. The remarks were made in response to queries from shareholders and investors ahead of SIA’s upcoming annual general meeting on July 24. SIA confirmed that it conducted a formal impairment assessment but determined that no write-down in Air India was required.

SIA reiterated the importance of its 25.1% stake in Air India within its strategic framework, citing India’s promising aviation growth prospects. The airline also addressed various concerns regarding Air India, including future funding, geopolitical risks, digital services, and customer experience, as reported by The Straits Times. Despite challenges such as currency depreciation and airspace closures, SIA acknowledged Air India’s progress in enhancing customer experience, expanding its fleet and network, improving operational performance, and upgrading ground and in-flight services.

The Singapore carrier expressed readiness to evaluate any potential requests for additional capital from Air India, taking into account its own financial needs and Air India’s business plans. However, SIA refrained from commenting on reports suggesting that Air India sought a $1.1 billion capital injection in October 2025. SIA highlighted its investment assessment practices, stating that it regularly reviews its stake in Air India for impairment indicators and conducts formal tests when necessary.

Furthermore, Singapore Airlines disclosed that its Chief Executive Officer serves as a non-executive and non-independent director on Air India’s board, enabling SIA to offer strategic guidance and industry expertise.
