The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Uttar Pradesh has submitted a preliminary report on alleged irregularities in donation counting at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. The investigation uncovered instances of staff hiding cash in clothes and personal items, leading to the identification of six individuals involved in the theft. Cases have been filed against them.
The report pointed out significant lapses in supervision and procedures despite agreements with the State Bank of India. Security measures like frisking, biometric attendance, and proper counting protocols were not followed, resulting in unauthorized access to donation box keys. Trust officials have been held responsible for oversight failures.
Approximately Rs 78.94 lakh and other items were recovered from the accused, whose bank deposits far exceeded their salaries. The Trust has accepted resignations on moral grounds and is working on reforms while the SIT continues its investigation for transparency and systemic improvements. Allegations of missing valuables are being addressed for better management and record-keeping.
The Trust reassures the public that donations and temple activities remain unaffected, emphasizing the preservation of public trust amidst the ongoing investigations.
