The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the alleged custodial death of a 25-year-old man in Vijayawada has detained the suspended Station House Officer (SHO) for questioning. The SIT, formed by the Andhra Pradesh government, took Nagaraju into custody from his residence in Singh Nagar. Supporters of the SHO gathered outside his home, urging the government to drop the charges against him.
The SIT, led by Inspector General M. Ravi Prakash, was set up two days ago to look into the disappearance and suspected custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna. The team, including other police officials, has been actively investigating the case. Statements from Sai Krishna’s family members have been recorded, and the SIT visited the police station where he was last seen.
Allegations of wrongful confinement, murder, and tampering with evidence have been levied against the suspended SHO. A case was filed on June 19 based on a complaint by Sai Krishna’s mother, accusing the police of torturing and causing her son’s death in custody. She further claimed that his body was secretly cremated to hide the crime. The High Court has intervened, demanding the police produce Sai Krishna by a specified date.
