At least six Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans sustained injuries in a road mishap near the tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sonamarg tourist resort area. The incident occurred when the vehicle they were in veered off the road due to the driver losing control near the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district. The injured jawans received immediate first aid at the scene before being transferred to a nearby CRPF camp in the Gund area.
The Srinagar-Sonamarg road, used by Amarnath Yatris from the North Kashmir Baltal base camp, passes through the area where the accident took place. The route is heavily guarded by local police and CRPF personnel to ensure the safety of pilgrims traveling to the Baltal base camp and Nunwan base camp in Kashmir. Transit camps have been established along the Yatra routes at strategic locations to provide necessary facilities to the pilgrims.
As part of the security measures for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 (SANJY-2026), healthcare facilities and free community kitchens known as ‘Langars’ have been arranged at the base camps and transit camps. Pilgrims arriving late at the transit camps are accommodated there, in line with the Yatra’s security protocols. The Supreme Court’s directives on regulating the number of Yatris undertaking the pilgrimage are being strictly followed.
A convoy of over 3800 Yatris departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the base camps under tight security arrangements. Due to the declaration of a ‘No-fly zone’ beyond the base camps, helicopter services are not operational for the Yatris this year. The authorities are ensuring comprehensive security and logistical support for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
