Slovak President Peter Pelligrini expressed anticipation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Bratislava, citing it as a significant opportunity to boost cooperation between Slovakia and India. PM Modi, in turn, highlighted the importance of his visit to Slovakia, emphasizing discussions with top leaders and the potential for strengthened commercial ties, particularly in the context of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

PM Modi embarked on a diplomatic journey to France and Slovakia, focusing on bilateral discussions, multilateral engagements, and fostering economic and cultural partnerships. His visit to Slovakia, at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, will involve high-level talks with key officials to explore avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, automobile manufacturing, and railway infrastructure.

The Ministry of External Affairs affirmed that PM Modi’s visit aims to reinforce India’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with Slovakia across various sectors. The visit comes after a period of growing relations between India and Slovakia, highlighted by Presidential visits and culminating in the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia.

Slovakia’s support during the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine in 2022, known as Operation Ganga, further solidified the bond between the two nations. Notably, Slovakia played a crucial role in facilitating the safe return of over a thousand Indian students and two foreign nationals during the operation.
