India’s vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, recently reached a significant milestone in her cricket career by becoming the second Indian woman to score 10,000 runs in international cricket. Making her debut in April 2013 against Bangladesh, Smriti achieved this feat during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram, scoring 80 runs off 48 balls with an impressive strike rate of 170.2.
Apart from Mithali Raj, Smriti now joins the ranks of New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and former England player turned coach Charlotte Edwards as the only women players to surpass the 10,000-run mark in international cricket. Smriti has also accumulated 629 runs in seven Tests and 5,322 runs in 117 ODIs, with the opportunity to surpass Mithali Raj’s record of 10,868 runs across formats.
During the T20I series opener against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam, Smriti became the first Indian and second overall after Suzie Bates to reach 4,000 runs in Women’s T20Is. She played a crucial role in India’s Women’s ODI World Cup victory, scoring 434 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of 54.25.
In 2025, Smriti emerged as the highest run-scorer in ODIs, amassing 1362 runs in 23 innings, including five fifties and five centuries. She also made history by becoming the first Indian woman to score a century in all three formats of the game. Following the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Smriti will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL), commencing on January 9 against Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
