Snehit Suravajjula saved six match points to defeat Japanese 13th seed Mizuki Oikawa in the WTT Star Contender Chennai 2026. He won 3-2 after coming back from a 0-2 deficit, setting up a Round of 16 clash with top seed Oh Junsung. Nithya Mani, on the other hand, upset 14th seed Minhyung Jee of Australia and will now face fourth seed Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei in the pre-quarterfinals.

Qualifier Nithya Mani, ranked World No. 481, triumphed over Australia’s Jee 3-2 in a closely contested match. She now advances to play against Cheng I-Ching. In the men’s singles, G Sathiyan and Manush Shah also progressed to the pre-quarters. Sathiyan defeated Lim Jonghoon of Korea Republic 3-1, while Manush beat Park Gyuhyeon, another Korean player.

Snehit Suravajjula’s thrilling victory captivated spectators, with him overcoming tough odds in the decider. Snehit emphasized focusing on one point at a time during the crucial moments of the match. The win came as a surprise to the 25-year-old player, who gained confidence after losing the initial games.

Wild card entrants Payas Jain and Syndrella Das caused an upset by defeating top seeds Manush Shah and Diya Chitale in the mixed doubles. India is guaranteed a spot in the mixed doubles final, facing fourth seeds Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade in the semifinals.
