The Somali National Army, with support from international security partners, carried out airstrikes in the Godey area of southern Somalia, resulting in the death of 35 al-Shabaab militants. The strikes also wounded 20 other militants and targeted the group’s caves, weapons caches, and hideouts, causing secondary explosions due to hidden weapons stockpiles.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the targeted site harbored militants and vehicles loaded with explosives intended for terrorist attacks in Somalia. In a separate operation in the Middle Shabelle region, 30 al-Shabaab militants were eliminated, along with the destruction of vehicles, weapons, and logistical supplies used for planning attacks.
Military operations focused on al-Shabaab mobilization centers and training facilities, actively used by the group to store military essentials. The Ministry of Defence expressed gratitude to international partners for their support in Somalia’s counterterrorism efforts, emphasizing their crucial role in the success of these operations.
Al-Shabaab did not provide any comments on the operations, which coincided with escalated ground offensives by Somalia’s elite forces and international allies. Recent joint operations in the Middle Shabelle and Hiran regions resulted in the elimination of 29 al-Shabaab militants, including a senior commander, showcasing the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Somalia.
