Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), with support from international partners, successfully neutralized 16 al-Shabaab militants, including two key figures, in Somalia. The operations, conducted in the Miirtaqwo and Tardo areas of the Middle Shabelle and Hiran regions, resulted in the destruction of crucial enemy vehicles and equipment. One of the operations specifically targeted and dismantled an al-Shabaab facility referred to as the “Security House,” where Radio Andalus equipment was stored, leading to the elimination of Abdisamad Mohamed and operative Ali Salad.
The head of the Radio Andalus propaganda unit, Abdisamad Mohamed, and operative Ali Salad were among those killed in the operation, with another member sustaining serious injuries. Additionally, equipment utilized by Radio Andalus, the group’s platform for disseminating extremist propaganda, was also eradicated during the mission. NISA emphasized that these efforts are part of a continuous campaign to disrupt al-Shabaab activities by dismantling their infrastructure and equipment used for terrorist operations.
Further operations in the Tardo area of Hiran targeted al-Shabaab militants preparing for assaults in Goobo and Waabweyn. Security analysts noted that these recent actions signify heightened security measures to dismantle al-Shabaab networks and enhance civilian safety in one of Somalia’s most unstable regions. Last month, the Somali National Army, in collaboration with international security allies, carried out airstrikes in the Godey region of southern Somalia, resulting in the elimination of 35 al-Shabaab militants and the injury of 20 others.
The Ministry of Defence reported that the airstrikes specifically targeted the group’s network of caves, weapons caches, and hideouts, leading to significant secondary explosions that indicated the presence of concealed weapons stockpiles and enemy military supplies. The Ministry highlighted that the targeted site harbored militants and vehicles loaded with explosives intended for terrorist attacks in Somalia. These actions underscore the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and enhance security in the region.
