Somnath Temple, renowned globally for its cultural and spiritual significance, serves as a hub of faith and devotion. Beyond its religious aspects, the temple has become a significant force for empowering women. The Somnath Trust, responsible for temple management, has provided jobs to numerous individuals, with over 350 being women engaged in various services.
Currently, the Somnath Temple Trust employs a total of 906 individuals, including 262 women. Notably, the Bilva forest within the temple grounds is entirely managed by a team of 16 women. These women focus on environmental preservation, green initiatives, and cleanliness to maintain the temple’s sanctity, setting a remarkable example of efficient management.
Around 30 women work in the temple’s dining hall, upholding the tradition of selfless service by offering meals to thousands of devotees with love and dedication. Additionally, 65 women are actively involved in distributing prasad, showcasing their discipline, commitment, and dependability in sacred duties.
In total, 363 women are either directly or indirectly employed through the Somnath Temple Trust, providing them with a stable income that enhances their economic independence and elevates their living standards. This initiative underscores the trust’s inclusive values and dedication to offering equal opportunities, as women actively participate in temple management, service tasks, and daily operations.
The practice of involving women in temple services has garnered widespread praise, seen as a successful model of women’s empowerment that seamlessly integrates spiritual heritage with social responsibility.
