South Africa’s batting coach, Ashwell Prince, has suggested the possibility of rotating players in their lineup before their Super Eights match against Zimbabwe in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Proteas, who have already secured a spot in the semifinals from Group 1, are contemplating giving opportunities to less frequently used players.
Prince highlighted the importance of assessing players’ energy levels and potential minor injuries before making any changes to the team. Despite the potential alterations, he expressed contentment with how South Africa has performed in the tournament, emphasizing the team’s adaptability and competitive spirit.
Acknowledging the unpredictability of T20 cricket, Prince refrained from labeling South Africa as favorites to win the tournament. He emphasized the need to stay focused and maintain discipline, especially against Zimbabwe, who have shown impressive form despite being out of contention for the semifinals.
South Africa’s success in the tournament has been bolstered by captain Aiden Markram’s exceptional form, with him being on the verge of breaking the record for most runs scored by a captain in a single T20 World Cup edition. Prince praised Markram’s consistency and confidence as an opener, attributing his strong performances to his role in the team.
Prince also commended middle-order batsman Tristan Stubbs for his impactful contributions, highlighting his selfless attitude and commitment to team success. Stubbs’ resilience and ability to deliver in crucial moments have been instrumental in South Africa’s campaign, showcasing the team’s collective focus on teamwork and unity.
