South Korea’s presidential Office of National Security denounced North Korea’s recent ballistic missile launch, labeling it a breach of UN Security Council resolutions. An emergency meeting was called by the office, led by Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Hyun-jong, to evaluate the situation. The North’s escalating missile launches have raised concerns, with South Korea urging Pyongyang to cease actions that defy UN resolutions.
The presidential office also directed relevant agencies to heighten their preparedness as President Lee Jae Myung was scheduled to depart for India, followed by a visit to Vietnam. Following the missile launch from the Sinpho area in the North, South Korean and US intelligence authorities have been closely monitoring the situation. The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed the launch and emphasized the importance of a strong South Korea-US defense posture.
North Korea’s recent missile activities, including the possibility of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), have drawn attention. Reports suggest that Sinpho houses submarine-related facilities, with previous instances of SLBM tests in the region. The North’s series of missile tests, culminating in a tactical ballistic missile launch, have prompted concerns over its weapon development programs. State media reports indicated tests of various weapon systems, hinting at a broader military testing agenda.
