South Korea recently conducted an integrated military firepower exercise, showcasing advanced weaponry like suicide drones and robots. The event, known as the Combined Joint Live-Fire Exercise, took place at the Seungjin Fire Training Field in Pocheon, close to the inter-Korean border. This exercise, the first under the Lee Jae Myung administration, involved 1,400 troops from various military branches and 457 pieces of equipment.
The drill displayed a variety of ground and aerial assets, including the Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system, K2 tanks, K9A1 self-propelled howitzers, and the homegrown KF-21 fighter jet. Additionally, unmanned assets like surveillance drones, “suicide drones,” and multi-legged robots were also part of the demonstration. The exercise began with a simulated attack scenario, utilizing surveillance drones and satellite assets to gather data on the target.
Troops then received recommendations from an artificial intelligence-driven command center to strike back, using a combination of ground and aerial assets, as well as unmanned vehicles. After repelling the simulated attack, the focus shifted to striking the enemy’s mechanized forces and deploying assets from both land and air. The event, led by Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back, was attended by over 1,900 individuals, including 400 citizen observers.
