South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun stated the country’s commitment to a phased and practical denuclearisation strategy for the Korean Peninsula. Emphasizing cooperation with like-minded nations, Cho highlighted the goal of enhancing regional peace and stability.
Cho also underscored South Korea’s plan to bolster its defense capabilities through the South Korea-US alliance and expand collaborations with countries such as the Group of Seven (G7) and those in the Global South. Additionally, South Korea aims to play a bridging role globally by leveraging its strengths in development cooperation, technology, and culture.
The 21st Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, hosted on Jeju Island, saw the participation of senior officials, diplomats, and experts discussing themes like sustainable peace, climate change, and AI challenges. The forum aims to foster cooperation in a world facing increasing fragmentation and geopolitical uncertainties.
Meetings held by Cho with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Levent Gumrukcu and French Ambassador for the Indo-Pacific Dana Purcarescu focused on addressing geopolitical challenges and strengthening strategic partnerships. The forum will continue for three days, with sessions covering topics ranging from North Korea to freedom of navigation.
