A special counsel team in South Korea has recommended a 7.5-year prison sentence for former first lady Kim Keon Hee in her bribery trial. The team led by Special counsel Min Joong-ki made this recommendation during the final hearing at the Seoul Central District Court. Kim is accused of accepting luxury gifts and seeking government appointments and other favors.
Kim allegedly received jewelry worth over 100 million won, including a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, from a construction company chairman. She is also accused of accepting a golden turtle ornament in exchange for an appointment. Additionally, Kim allegedly received a Vacheron Constantin watch and a painting by artist Lee Ufan in separate incidents.
The special counsel team also accused Kim of receiving a Dior bag worth 5.4 million won from a pastor. These transactions, according to the team, were made for personal gain while Kim held a position close to the president. Last month, Kim was sentenced to four years in prison in a different trial on corruption charges.
