South Korean President Lee Jae Myung extended congratulations to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for her party’s triumph in the recent election. President Lee expressed his well wishes for Japan’s progress under Takaichi’s leadership and expressed a desire to meet her in South Korea through shuttle diplomacy. The congratulatory message was shared on social media platform X following Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party securing a significant majority in the House of Representatives.

President Lee highlighted the positive steps taken in bilateral relations during the recent summit talks between Seoul and Tokyo. He emphasized the importance of trust and friendship in expanding and deepening the ties between the two countries. President Lee also anticipated welcoming Prime Minister Takaichi to South Korea in the near future through the upcoming round of shuttle diplomacy.

The leaders of South Korea and Japan, during their previous meetings, agreed to enhance cooperation in forward-looking areas like supply chains and artificial intelligence. President Lee proposed the idea of holding their next summit in his hometown of Andong. Additionally, President Lee reaffirmed his commitment to a dual-track approach with Japan, focusing on future-oriented collaboration while addressing historical issues from Japan’s colonial rule of Korea.
