South Korean President Lee Jae Myung responded to opposition criticism, denying that the government’s regional investment initiatives were aimed at boosting his approval ratings. The “three megaprojects” unveiled by the government focus on semiconductor technology, physical artificial intelligence (AI), and AI data centers, with a total investment of 4,755 trillion won (US$3.11 trillion). Samsung and SK hynix have announced plans for significant investments in memory chip fabrication plants as part of these projects.
President Lee emphasized that the initiatives were not driven by political motives but were intended to bring new hope and opportunities to the country. He stressed the importance of tangible results that improve people’s lives over approval ratings. Lee expressed his commitment to empowering young people by providing them with hope, dreams, and vitality through these projects.
Lee is set to lead a meeting next week to assess the progress of a major semiconductor production base in the country’s southwestern region. The meeting, to be held at the presidential office, will be the first strategic review session since the investment plans were announced. President Lee has personally taken charge of overseeing these projects to ensure their swift implementation.
