South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has departed from Italy to head to Evian-les-Bains, France, for the Group of Seven (G7) summit. Lee, accompanied by his entourage, flew from Leonardo da Vinci International Airport to Geneva and will then travel by land to Evian, the final destination of his European trip. During his visit to Europe, Lee held discussions with Italian leaders to enhance bilateral relations and explore cooperation in areas like semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
In Evian, President Lee is set to participate in the G7 summit as an invited partner country, marking South Korea’s second consecutive year of attendance. Additionally, Lee extended an invitation to Pope Leo XIV to visit South Korea in 2027 for World Youth Day, which was well-received during their meeting at the Vatican. The leaders discussed collaborating for a successful World Youth Day event and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Furthermore, discussions between Lee and the Pope also touched on inter-Korean issues, emphasizing the importance of cross-border dialogue and cooperation despite political challenges. The Vatican expressed its continuous support for peace efforts on the peninsula, underscoring the significance of fostering peaceful relations in the region.
