The South Korea’s Supreme Court has affirmed a 3.5-year prison sentence for Taeil, a former member of the K-pop group NCT, for sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman. The court upheld the ruling that found the 31-year-old singer and two accomplices guilty of a special quasi-rape charge, dismissing their final appeal.

This charge is applicable when multiple individuals assault a victim who is unable to resist due to unconsciousness or other factors. The three men, including Taeil, were also mandated to undergo a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program and were prohibited from working at organizations involving children, adolescents, and the disabled.

They were indicted without detention in March for sexually assaulting a foreign woman in Seoul in June the previous year. The victim, reportedly a tourist, was intoxicated during the incident. Taeil, who debuted in 2016 as part of NCT, faced a halt in his career in August 2024 when police initiated an investigation into the allegations.
