The two-day Southern Command Investiture Ceremony in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, ended with the recognition of gallantry, distinguished service, and professional excellence in the Indian Armed Forces. Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth awarded 34 personnel for acts of valour and service to the nation. Additionally, 33 units received the “GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Citation” for operational excellence and professional achievement.
The ceremony began with a ceremonial Guard of Honour for the Army Commander, following Indian Army traditions. Lieutenant General Seth emphasized the investiture’s acknowledgment of exceptional courage, professionalism, and selfless service, inspired by fallen soldiers and veteran legacies. He highlighted Southern Command’s operational readiness, jointmanship, and multi-domain capabilities demonstrated in recent operations.
Veteran Achievers Awards were presented to former service personnel for their post-retirement contributions across various fields. The event also featured a display of weapons and equipment aligned with the Army’s modernization efforts. Jayesh Patel, Deputy Executive Engineer of the Ahmedabad Cantonment Board, received the Achieving Excellence Award for his long and dedicated service.
Wing Commander Dharmendra Sharma (Retd.), a veteran of the Indian Air Force, was honored with a Certificate of Commendation for his 25 years of service and post-retirement contributions. Recognized for his environmental conservation and social initiatives, he exemplified devotion to duty and responsible citizenship. The ceremony, attended by senior dignitaries and defense officials, concluded with a focus on courage, discipline, and selfless service.
