The southwest monsoon is set to arrive in Delhi around June 27, providing relief from the current heat and humidity in the National Capital Region. In Bihar, the monsoon has already brought widespread rainfall since its onset on June 11, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy rainfall in various regions.
The IMD has predicted significant rainfall on June 24 along the west coast and parts of eastern and northeastern India, including areas like Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal. As the monsoon progresses steadily, residents of Delhi and neighboring cities are eagerly anticipating the much-needed relief from the prevailing weather conditions.
While the monsoon has made substantial advances in various states, including Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar, its arrival in Delhi might face a slight delay. Despite initial projections, the IMD has not officially revised the monsoon onset date for Delhi, leaving the exact timing uncertain.
Meteorologists emphasize that the monsoon’s arrival in Delhi-NCR depends on multiple factors such as the strength of monsoon winds, moisture availability, and prevailing atmospheric conditions. If conditions remain favorable, Delhi could witness the monsoon around June 27; however, any disruptions may push the onset to early July.
Delhi and its neighboring regions recently experienced severe weather conditions, including dust storms and powerful winds, prompting the IMD to issue a Red Alert. The sudden storm activity brought relief from the intense heat but also disrupted normal life in the area. Mumbai also witnessed heavy rainfall as the southwest monsoon established itself over the financial capital, with warnings of thunderstorms and intense rainfall in parts of Maharashtra.
