In Bengaluru, a Special Court has directed the registration of a First Information Report against Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara for allegedly placing a Rs 500 bet during a Kabaddi sports tournament. The court emphasized the seriousness of the issue and its implications on society, instructing the Kodigehalli police in Tumakuru to conduct a thorough investigation.
Following a private complaint by H.R. Nagabhushan, the court, presided over by Judge K.N. Shivakumar, acted on the directive to initiate legal proceedings and delve into the matter further. The incident in question took place at a state-level pre-university college Kabaddi tournament held in Tumakuru, where Parameshwara reportedly engaged in a casual bet with District Collector Shubha Kalyan.
During the tournament, Parameshwara wagered Rs 500 on the Vijayapura team, which ultimately lost to the Mangaluru team. Despite the minor nature of the bet and the Minister’s light-hearted disclosure of the loss while awarding prizes, the complainant stressed the illegality of betting and the need for public figures to avoid any association with such activities. Authorities are now expected to proceed with the investigation as per the court’s orders.
