A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the suspicious death of a female home guard in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. The accused police officer, sub-inspector Sayan Bhattacharya, has been suspended in connection with the case. The woman, identified as Reshmi Molla, was found hanging in the police residential quarters in Canning.
Reshmi, also known as Guljan Parveen Molla, was discovered hanging from the ceiling in a room at the police quarters. She hailed from the Uttar Moukhali area under Jibantala Police Station in Canning Block II. Following the incident, the sub-inspector accused of involvement has gone missing, prompting a police manhunt to locate him.
Police have registered a murder case against the officer based on a complaint filed by the home guard’s family. The accused sub-inspector is currently untraceable, and efforts are underway to find him. An SIT comprising six members has been formed, with Additional Superintendent of Police Rupantar Sengupta appointed as its head.
The police suspect that the sub-inspector went into hiding upon learning of Reshmi Molla’s death. Allegations from the victim’s family suggest that she was involved in an extramarital affair with the sub-inspector, leading to her murder. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter based on the family’s complaint.
