A Sports Governance Conclave is taking place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad to synchronize India’s sports ecosystem with the national vision of Viksit Bharat. This initiative aims to highlight the strategic role of sports in youth development, social cohesion, and global recognition. The conclave is significant as India’s sports policy is transitioning towards long-term planning, professional governance, and athlete-centered reforms.
Under the Khelo Bharat Niti, the conclave’s objective is to unite all National Sports Federations (NSFs) under a common policy and planning framework. Rather than focusing on short-term outcomes, the emphasis is on aligning federations with India’s enduring sporting objectives, such as sustained excellence, global competitiveness, and institutional integrity. Discussions will prioritize athlete-centric reforms, including enhancing athlete development pathways, incorporating sports science and medicine, and strengthening grassroots systems for a robust talent pipeline.
One of the key aspects of the conclave will be to enhance governance practices across federations with a focus on transparency, accountability, and professional management. The event will facilitate a comprehensive evaluation of India’s readiness to host major international sporting competitions. With aspirations tied to the 2030 Commonwealth Games and a long-term Olympic vision, NSFs will gain clarity on their expanded roles as stakeholders in global event hosting. The conclave will also urge federations to play a more active role in attracting international competitions to India.
Facilitating coordination among the Government, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and the National Sports Federations is a primary goal of the conclave. The IOA’s General Body Meeting, held concurrently, is expected to enhance institutional coherence within the Olympic movement. The selection of Ahmedabad as the event venue underscores India’s growing capabilities and confidence in hosting large multi-sport events. Delegates will have the opportunity to visit key sporting and event venues to gain practical insights into infrastructure readiness and operational planning.
