The Sports Ministry has introduced the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026 under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025. These rules focus on digital implementation, including a dedicated portal for dispute submissions and virtual hearings. The National Sports Board’s composition, functions, and appointment process are outlined in the rules.
The National Sports Board will be responsible for recognizing National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance standards. The National Sports Tribunal’s rules detail the appointment process, term of office, and powers of its members. It aims to provide a swift and cost-effective resolution of sports-related disputes. The Tribunal will reduce reliance on civil courts and streamline the resolution process.
The Board’s functions include maintaining a roster of the National Sports Election Panel and affiliate units of National Sports Bodies. It will also specify guidelines for sports governance matters and recommend international best practices. The Board is mandated to organize training programs and prepare annual financial statements for audit.
