Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inviting him to the AI Impact Summit and for India’s significant assistance during Cyclone Ditwah. The leaders met in New Delhi to discuss strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation in various sectors. PM Modi described Sri Lanka as a valued neighbor, emphasizing the importance of their enduring friendship.
During the AI Impact Summit, President Dissanayake engaged in discussions with PM Modi, as well as with other world leaders like President Macron, President Vucic, and President Pellegrini. They explored the potential of Artificial Intelligence for global benefit and emphasized the need for multilateral collaboration. Dissanayake highlighted the importance of using technology to uplift cultural values and human capabilities for a balanced future.
India’s support to Sri Lanka post-Cyclone Ditwah included extensive reconstruction efforts and the restoration of critical infrastructure. Acting as a ‘First Responder’ under Operation Sagar Bandhu, India pledged a USD 450 million reconstruction package covering various sectors like transportation, housing, healthcare, education, agriculture, and disaster preparedness.
