Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended congratulations to actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President C. Joseph Vijay for assuming office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. President Dissanayake expressed eagerness to collaborate for strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu.
Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony marked a significant political transition in Tamil Nadu, ending the long-standing rule alternation between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Vijay, along with nine other ministers.
The event witnessed the presence of various national and regional political figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and garnered massive support from party workers and supporters. Security measures were heightened by the Chennai city police to ensure a smooth ceremony.
Vijay assumed office following the support of 120 MLAs in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, surpassing the majority mark of 118 needed to form the government. The alliance led by TVK, though the largest party in the recent elections, engaged in political negotiations before securing necessary support for Vijay’s government formation.
