Srinagar police reported the demolition of a three-storey residential property worth around Rs 2 crore, owned by an alleged drug peddler in Rainawari. This action was part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at dismantling networks linked to drug crimes. The demolished property belonged to Sheikh Tasaduq, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Mumkhan Mohalla, Rainawari.
The demolition was conducted by Srinagar police in collaboration with the Revenue Department as a part of the anti-drug campaign targeting individuals involved in narcotics-related offenses. Sheikh Tasaduq, the property owner, has been implicated in various cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including FIR No. 112/2019 at Police Station Awantipora and FIR No. 81/2023 at Police Station Budgam.
Authorities revealed that Sheikh Tasaduq’s spouse is also entangled in a separate NDPS case registered at Police Station Pulwama. Investigations into the accused’s assets unveiled that the three-storey structure was built on encroached state land, allegedly funded by proceeds from drug trafficking. The demolition not only removed the illegal structure but also recovered valuable government land occupied without authorization.
Following legal procedures and verifications, the property was demolished in the presence of Revenue Department officials. This action is part of a broader strategy to target assets acquired through illicit drug activities and disrupt the financial backbone of the drug trade. The crackdown on drug smugglers and traffickers is a key focus of the ongoing ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’, initiated by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on April 6.
