Elon Musk’s Starlink has refuted claims that India halted approvals for its satellite internet services, asserting ongoing positive discussions with the government. Lauren Dreyer, Starlink’s Vice President of Business Operations, affirmed the company’s dedication to launching services in India while adhering to all regulatory mandates. This rebuttal follows a Bloomberg report suggesting India’s pause on Starlink’s operations due to concerns over satellite terminal usage in the Iran conflict.
Starlink emphasized its active engagement with the Indian government, dismissing purportedly baseless reports from anonymous sources. Dreyer highlighted the company’s transparent compliance with regulatory procedures and its tailored deployment strategy in India to align with local technological and security prerequisites. She expressed optimism regarding Starlink’s potential to enhance India’s connectivity, particularly in remote areas.
The company’s commitment to India was reiterated by Dreyer, emphasizing collaboration with authorities to introduce Starlink’s services promptly. Starlink has sought a license for satellite communication services in India and secured a Letter of Intent from the government. Pending final regulatory clearance, the company anticipates commencing commercial operations soon.
In a crucial period for SpaceX, amid preparations for a potentially record-breaking IPO, Starlink’s licensing process in India holds significance. The anticipated Nasdaq listing, valuing SpaceX at approximately $1.75 trillion, coincides with Starlink’s pursuit of regulatory approval for its services in the country.
