Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) disclosed a 10.4% decrease in its consolidated net profit for the April-June quarter of FY27 due to reduced revenue and other income. The company’s consolidated net profit stood at Rs 1,644 crore for the quarter, down from Rs 1,835 crore in the previous quarter. Revenue from operations also fell by 14.8% to Rs 26,246 crore from Rs 30,813 crore.
The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) dropped by 5.8% sequentially to Rs 4,153 crore from Rs 4,408 crore. Despite this, the company’s operating margin saw an improvement to 15.8% from 14.3% in the preceding quarter. Other income notably decreased to Rs 206 crore from Rs 352 crore in the previous quarter.
SAIL mentioned a one-time cost of Rs 144 crore in the April-June quarter, impacting its financial performance. Although the quarterly earnings were weaker, SAIL’s shares closed 0.34% higher at Rs 161.45 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), outperforming the Nifty index, which ended 0.43% lower.
Chairman & Managing Director of SAIL, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda, commented on the first-quarter results, stating that despite global uncertainties, the domestic steel industry exhibited resilience supported by sustained demand in domestic steel consumption. Panda highlighted SAIL’s enhanced operational efficiencies, cost management, and marketing strategies that led to a profitable first quarter in FY27. The company aims to leverage its strong manufacturing capabilities to capitalize on the continuous domestic steel demand.
