Steel industry veteran Jatinder Mehra, known for his technical expertise and strategic acumen, passed away, marking the end of a significant era in India’s metals and mining sector.
Mehra, who had a career spanning over six decades, was Vice Chairman of the Metals and Mining Division at Essar Group, where he played a pivotal role in steering the group’s steel and metals businesses.
His visionary leadership and contributions were deeply acknowledged by the Essar family, highlighting his instrumental role in shaping long-term strategies and overseeing key projects like the Hazira and Paradip steel facilities.
Mehra’s legacy extends beyond Essar, as he held esteemed positions in India’s public sector steel industry, including serving as Executive Director at Steel Authority of India Limited and later as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication to the industry, Jatinder Mehra was posthumously honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indian Steel Association in 2022, underscoring his lasting impact and influence on the steel sector.
