Australian cricket legend Steve Smith has acknowledged being left out of Australia’s T20 World Cup preliminary squad but remains focused on his T20 ambitions. Despite missing the squad, Smith is determined to play for Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The 38-year-old, currently excelling in the Big Bash League, expressed his desire to continue representing his country in major tournaments.
Smith, a former Australia captain, is still open to T20I cricket as he aims to fulfill his dream of participating in the Olympics, where cricket will make a comeback. Reflecting on his exclusion from the national squad, Smith mentioned that he aspires to secure a spot when the Olympics approach. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining his performance levels and enjoying the game.
Having last played a T20I for Australia in February 2024, Smith has maintained an impressive average of over 51 and a strike rate of 156 in T20 matches. His recent stellar performances in the ongoing BBL season have showcased his form, with notable contributions for the Sydney Sixers. Notably, Smith’s remarkable century off 41 balls against the Sydney Thunder highlighted his prowess and impact in the league.

Following the BBL season, Smith is set to participate in T20 cricket in Major League Cricket, scheduled to be held in the USA during June and July.
