Kolkata, July 31 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said that his administration had taken strong action against absconding Birbhum‑based stone quarry owner Tulu Mondal, also known as Mohammad Nizamuddin, whose house at Suri in the district was sealed this morning by Birbhum district police.

His house was sealed after huge cash and gold worth around Rs 50 crore were seized from the residence of one of his close relatives, Minar Mondal, on Thursday. During police interrogation, Minar confessed that Tulu Mondal actually owned the seized cash and gold and that he had only been given the responsibility of keeping them in his residence.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, CM Adhikari claimed that Tulu Mondal’s massive corruption empire was not built in a day and would not have been possible without the backing of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He said such corruption could not have happened without the support of Mamata Banerjee’s government.

“So much property could not have been accumulated in a day. Several people at several levels were involved. This does not happen unless there is backing from the top level. What is the point in blaming the police and the district magistrate? Action will be taken against all those involved,” the Chief Minister said.

Detailing the actions taken by his government against Tulu Mondal, Adhikari said the administration had frozen Rs 93 crore in various accounts belonging to him.

“We have also seized Rs 53 lakh in cash, huge quantities of gold, silver and platinum. Three currency‑counting machines, one computer and CPU, two pen drives, 83 trucks and dumpers have been seized. A total of 242 vehicles, including luxury vehicles like BMW and Audi, have also been seized,” he said.

At the same time, CM Adhikari added that a total of 21 properties had been searched.

“These include seven houses, one farmhouse, two petrol pumps, one parking lot and two stone‑crushers. In total, over 99 acres of property are being seized,” the Chief Minister said.
