Two-thirds of employees are willing to accept a pay cut in exchange for improved workplace conditions and more flexibility, a report revealed. The study by Great Place To Work India highlighted that 62 percent of employees in typical workplaces are actively seeking new roles. Among those considering a job change, 70 percent anticipate leaving their current organization within a year.
According to Balbir Singh, CEO of Great Place To Work, findings indicate that workplace culture significantly impacts retention rates, leadership trust, and employees’ willingness to trade compensation for better work experiences. The study showed that 60 percent of employees without a positive workplace experience plan to leave, a number that decreases by half in a positive environment.
Investing in culture and leadership capabilities is crucial for business resilience and long-term performance, Singh emphasized. Specific workforce breakdowns revealed a high intent to switch jobs in healthcare, biotech, and pharmaceutical sectors, with 81 percent of employees considering a change planning to do so within a year.
Younger professionals also showed a strong inclination towards job changes, with 76 percent of Generation Z and 68 percent of millennials aiming for a job switch within the year. Additionally, 73 percent of supervisors and frontline managers contemplating a change expect to leave their roles in the near future.
The report highlighted that 87 percent of employees contemplating leaving identified workplace culture as a key factor when assessing potential employers. Dissatisfaction among employees preparing to leave was notably higher, ranging from 20 to 27 percent lower satisfaction compared to those intending to stay, particularly concerning fair pay, work-life balance, recognition, and management communication.
The study also noted that employees’ intention to leave decreases by 16 percent with strong confidence in leadership and by 12 percent when employees perceive meaningful opportunities for innovation at work.
