Day 1 of the SDAT ASAF International Youth Sailing Championship 2026 and the 11th India International Regatta in Chennai saw three races completed in favorable conditions. The wind speeds remained steady at around 18 knots, providing ideal racing conditions for various fleets. Despite choppy waters, the absence of major wind shifts allowed uninterrupted racing, showcasing efficient race management.
For many young sailors experiencing an international regatta for the first time, the conditions were challenging. The ILCA 4 fleet witnessed intense competition, highlighting the quality of the participants. The day concluded with positive feedback from sailors, coaches, and officials, setting a promising tone for the rest of the regatta.
The presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will be a significant highlight of the event on 8th January 2026. This emphasizes the connection between competitive sailing, maritime development, and India’s long-term vision for the Amrit Kaal leading up to 2047. The India International Regatta, attracting sailors from various countries, continues to promote international participation and cultural exchange among young sailors.
