India’s top singles player, Sumit Nagal, was defeated in straight sets by Italy’s Federico Cina at the ATP Delhi Open 2026, ending his singles campaign in the tournament. Nagal, ranked 297th globally, fought back briefly but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-4 to the 18-year-old Cina, who displayed remarkable composure.

Meanwhile, in the doubles event, the top-seeded pair of Siddhant Banthia and Alexander Donski advanced to the quarterfinals with a strong 6-2, 6-3 victory. Banthia expressed satisfaction with their performance, emphasizing their improved chemistry on the court and the confidence gained from their dominant display.

Reflecting on his win, Federico Cina acknowledged the challenge of facing Nagal, a player with Grand Slam experience, and playing in front of a home crowd. Cina expressed happiness over his victory, highlighting the tough competition and the pressure of the crowd during the match.

In other singles matches, Rei Sakamoto of Japan, Jay Clarke, Oliver Crawford, and Rio Noguchi secured victories to progress to the quarterfinals. Notable upsets included Michael Geerts defeating Daniel Michalski in straight sets. India also saw success in the doubles competition, with wildcard pair Divij Sharan and Karan Singh advancing to the quarterfinals.
