India legend Sunil Gavaskar has chosen Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the potential finalists for the IPL 2026 season. This decision comes after the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants were eliminated from the playoff contention. RCB achieved a remarkable victory over MI, winning by two wickets in a thrilling last-ball finish. With this win, RCB has climbed to the top of the table with seven victories in 11 games.
PBKS, on the other hand, started the season strongly with seven consecutive wins but have faced three consecutive defeats recently. Despite this, they are still in the running with 13 points, currently occupying the fourth spot in the standings. Gavaskar expressed his confidence in PBKS, suggesting that a few losses could help the team refocus and avoid complacency. He also highlighted Delhi Capitals’ struggles in closing out games, emphasizing PBKS’s determination to avoid self-doubt and perform well in the crucial stage of the tournament.
Gavaskar shared his insights on MI’s exit from the playoffs race, mentioning the possibility of giving younger players a chance in the remaining matches. He emphasized the importance of assessing the team’s performance at the end of the season and suggested that introducing young talent could provide valuable experience and test their ability to handle pressure. PBKS is scheduled to face Delhi Capitals in their upcoming match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on Monday evening.
