The film ‘Gabru’, starring Sunny Deol, was initially planned for an OTT release but has now opted for a theatrical release after positive test screenings. Sunny Deol, influenced by Abbas Mustan, Anil Sharma, and Rahul Rawail, decided to take the movie to theaters instead of the digital platform.
According to a source close to the actor, the budget for ‘Gabru’ is around Rs 45-50 crore, excluding promotion and advertising costs. The decision to switch to a theatrical release was made after the producers initially aimed for an OTT release but changed course due to the film’s content and feedback.
Directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Om Chhangani and Vishal Rana, ‘Gabru’ also stars Simran Bagga and Prit Kamani in significant roles. The movie, with music by Mithoon and lyrics by Sayeed Quadri, is described as a drama exploring themes of courage, identity, and resilience.
The narrative of ‘Gabru’ focuses on moral strength and emotional challenges rather than typical action sequences. Sunny Deol announced the film on his 68th birthday in 2025 and rescheduled its release to May 2026 to avoid clashes with other films like ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ and ‘Toxic’.
