Sunrisers Hyderabad have brought in Gerald Coetzee to replace David Payne for the rest of the IPL 2026 season. Payne sustained an ankle injury, leading to his withdrawal from the team after playing two matches and taking two wickets.
Coetzee, a right-arm fast bowler from South Africa, has a strong international record, featuring in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is for his national team. He has a total of 67 international wickets to his name.
Having previously played for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Coetzee brings experience to the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad. He was unsold at this year’s auction but will now join the team for a fee of INR 2 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also welcomed the return of captain Pat Cummins, who rejoined the team on April 17. Cummins is expected to play in the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals on April 25. Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the fifth position on the points table and is scheduled to face Chennai Super Kings on April 18.
Coetzee’s addition bolsters Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack with his pace and aggressive style, aiming to enhance the team’s performance in the latter stages of the tournament. He steps in as a replacement for Payne, providing a similar pace option for the team.
