Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fast bowler David Payne has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to an ankle injury, dealing a significant blow to the team. Payne, who was named as an injury replacement for Australian pacer Jack Edwards, failed to make an impact in the IPL, playing only two matches and picking up two wickets with a high economy rate.
Despite Payne’s exit, Sunrisers Hyderabad received positive news as their designated captain, Pat Cummins, has cleared the fitness test and is expected to rejoin the squad soon. Under the leadership of Ishan Kishan in Cummins’ absence, the team has managed to secure two wins out of five matches in the current season, placing them fourth in the points table with a net run rate of +0.576.
In a recent match, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Rajasthan Royals with a stellar bowling performance by debutants Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, who each took four wickets. The team will now face Chennai Super Kings on Saturday at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
