Supporters of the BJP from remote areas of the Sundarbans set off early on Saturday to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s large rally at Brigade Parade Ground. Crossing rivers by boats from island regions like Sagar Island, Namkhana, and Patharpratima, they aimed to reach Kolkata for the event. The challenging geography of the Sundarbans, where waterways are key for transport, prompted many to start their journey at dawn to ensure their presence at the rally.

Visuals captured groups of people boarding boats adorned with party flags as they made their way to the rally venue. BJP leaders noted the significant turnout from distant rural parts of the state, reflecting a surge in enthusiasm among supporters ahead of West Bengal’s upcoming political contests. A BJP supporter traveling from the Sundarbans expressed eagerness to hear the Prime Minister address the rally.

“We are traveling through the Sundarbans by boat today because Modi ji is coming to the Brigade rally. We are going there to listen to him. Under the current state government, there has been a lot of corruption and theft — including scams and misappropriation of rice meant for the people. We seek change in 2026,” the supporter shared with IANS. Another supporter highlighted the diverse backgrounds of attendees coming together for the event.

“People from different areas and communities are uniting to participate in the rally,” he added. Prime Minister Modi’s speech at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata is anticipated to draw one of the year’s largest political gatherings in the state. This rally signifies the conclusion of the BJP’s extensive outreach campaign across West Bengal before the upcoming Assembly elections. During his visit, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for major infrastructure projects, including crucial national highway developments to enhance connectivity in West Bengal.

Party leaders are optimistic about a massive turnout at the rally, with supporters arriving from various districts since early morning to partake in the event.
