The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has given the green light for the appointment of 19 advocates and judicial officers as judges at the Madras High Court. Among them are Dr. P. Murugan, M.D. Sumathi, S. Alli, C. Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran, and Karthikeyan Balathandayutham. The Collegium also sanctioned the appointment of six advocates and three judicial officers for the same position.
In a recent meeting, the Collegium approved the proposals dated November 4, 2025, November 21, 2025, and December 7, 2025, recommending the elevation of these individuals to the Bench of the Madras High Court. The process involves a series of consultations and recommendations starting from the Chief Justice of the concerned High Court and culminating in the President of India signing the warrants of appointment.
The Supreme Court Collegium, comprising the top judges of the apex court, plays a crucial role in suggesting appointments and transfers within the higher judiciary. Following the Collegium’s endorsement, the Central government receives the recommendations for final processing. The appointments become official after the President signs the warrants and the Department of Justice issues the necessary notifications.
