The Supreme Court postponed the hearing on the Meghalaya government’s challenge against Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail in the Raja Raghuvanshi honeymoon murder case to July 14. The state authorities were instructed to submit the arrest memo and related documents provided to the accused during her arrest. The Bench did not issue any interim order to halt Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Meghalaya government, argued that the High Court erred in upholding the bail due to a typographical error in the arrest documents. Mehta emphasized the seriousness of the case and clarified that the grounds of arrest were indeed given to the accused, with a minor error in mentioning the relevant legal section. The Supreme Court directed the Meghalaya government to present photocopies of the original arrest memo and documents to assess the validity of the grounds.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, in her response to the court, professed innocence and claimed false implication. She asserted that the case against her relies solely on circumstantial evidence and denied any guilt based on allegations. Sonam highlighted that she has abided by the bail conditions, resides in Shillong as directed, and there is no risk of tampering with evidence. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on July 14 to evaluate the grounds presented.
