The Supreme Court advised Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main suspect in the Raja Raghuvanshi honeymoon murder case, to think about surrendering and facing trial. The court hinted that it might decide on the Meghalaya government’s plea against her bail if she doesn’t surrender. Sonam’s lawyer was asked to find out if she was willing to surrender temporarily to allow the trial court to hear key witnesses.

The court stated that if Sonam decides to surrender, the trial court could speed up the witness examination before reconsidering her bail. The bench led by Justice Sundresh suggested this option during the hearing. The court also questioned the timing of raising concerns about the grounds of arrest and the impact of a clerical error in the arrest documents on the bail decision.

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court raised doubts about the delay in questioning the grounds of arrest and the significance of a clerical error in the arrest papers. The Meghalaya government’s representative argued that the mention of the wrong section in the arrest memo was a minor mistake. Sonam’s legal team argued that the case relied on circumstantial evidence and highlighted the excessive media attention it had received.
