The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for tomorrow regarding a plea filed by Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan. She challenges the rejection of her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election from Madhya Pradesh. The court’s vacation Bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Atul S. Chandurkar agreed to an early hearing after senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Natarajan, requested urgent listing of the matter.
Singhvi argued that Thursday marked the deadline for withdrawal of nominations and emphasized the need for an immediate hearing to prevent a six-year delay in seeking relief. Despite the request to stay the election result declaration, the Bench led by Justice Mishra declined to issue any interim order at this stage. The matter is set for a hearing on Friday.
Senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and D.S. Naidu, representing the Returning Officer and the Election Commission respectively, opposed the plea for urgent intervention. Natarajan moved the apex court after her nomination papers were rejected due to objections raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
