The Supreme Court has agreed to review a PIL concerning the effective implementation of the government’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure guidelines. The plea aims to address the arbitrary denial of NOCs by housing societies, hindering EV adoption. Rachit Katyal, a resident of Greater Noida, filed the petition under Article 32, emphasizing the need for sustainable transportation and national EV policies.

The petitioner, a resident of Nirala Estate Phase-3 in Greater Noida, faced obstacles in installing a private EV charger despite following government guidelines. The plea highlights the importance of NOCs for EV charger installation in designated parking spaces within housing societies. It stresses that such refusals impede clean mobility initiatives and violate residents’ fundamental rights.

Citing the Union Ministry of Power’s 2024 guidelines, the petition advocates for private EV charger installations in group housing societies. It points out the inadequacy of existing charging points in the society, emphasizing the need for compliance with national EV policies. The petitioner seeks uniform implementation of EV charging guidelines and aims to prevent arbitrary NOC denials by housing societies.
