Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, criticized the Election Commission of India for not taking decisive action against hindrances faced during the special intensive revision process. Adhikari expressed dissatisfaction with the Commission’s response to reported hooliganism by Trinamool Congress activists at voters’ list revision centers.
Adhikari questioned the Commission’s failure to deploy central armed police forces at the hearing centers, emphasizing the ECI’s authority to take necessary actions independently. He highlighted the need for concrete steps rather than mere communications from the Commission.
West Bengal BJP president, Samik Bhattacharya, also accused the ECI of leniency towards obstacles created by Trinamool Congress members during the revision exercise. Bhattacharya urged the Chief Election Commissioner to personally assess the situation in West Bengal.
Adhikari raised concerns about potential voting patterns in the upcoming Assembly elections, suggesting that minorities in West Bengal may not support either the BJP or the Trinamool Congress. He emphasized the need for proactive measures to address the challenges faced during the electoral process.
